Library existence at an institution of higher education in the 21st century is no longer functioning in general as a repository of reading materials and references alone. With the existence of various types of libraries, resource centers serve as one of the major entities also have a special function which provides reference and referral services in line with the strategic vision and mission of the institution.

In some countries, the university library also provides service to the surrounding community. Correspondingly, the library is an important channel to enhance public knowledge and thinking through reading to explore the ocean of knowledge to produce quality human capital with the knowledge, creative and innovative, and competitive with noble values and ethics. This is because the dignity of a civilized human is measured by the height of the society's knowledge.

The university greatly hopes that the library can spur a surge for a new paradigm shift towards achieving a knowledgeable society through Lifelong Learning supported by the library and information services that are innovative, effective and dynamic.
