4. What types of material can be borrowed and for how long?

Information about types of material can be borrowed and length of loan period can be obtain at the Circulation Counter and Library’s website.

5. What are the functions of a User Account?

Through a user account, a user can perform several transactions such as online renewal, book reservation and others.

6. How do new users obtain the IDs and passwords for their user accounts?

For new users, ‘Patron ID: Students ID/Staff ID’ and ‘Password: 1’. For further information please refers to the Circulation Counter (06-3316830/6831).

7. What happens if users forgot ID and password for their user account?

Users can refer to the Circulation Counter (06-3316830/6831).

8. How to renew books/materials through online?

Log in to User Account through Library website. Click on ‘On-loan Item’ and choose the book which book from the list of borrowed books/materials. Finally, click on ‘Renew’ at the bottom of borrowed list. For pictures guideline: Library Website – e-Guide – Student and Academic – Renew Online.

9. What are the functions of the User Advisory Desk?

On duty Librarian will provide user advisory services such as :

  • Searching materials/information
  • Inter Library Loan (ILL)
  • Advisory Services
  • Reference Questions
  • Book Suggestion
  • WebOPAC Usage
  • Searching Online Database

10. Does the library provide a media collection?

Yes, media collection such as CDs, DVDs, Videos and others. All borrowing and inquiries can be made at the Circulation Counter.

11. Who can participate and join the User Education Program?

The reference and reader advisory services are directed specifically at the student, research officer and research assistant. Applications can be made at the user advisory desk.

12. What is Interlibrary Loan (ILL)?

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a service that allow users to borrow and obtain materials that is not available in UTeM Library.

13. Who is eligible to use ILL?

UTeM staffs and students.

Staffs who are on study leave are not eligible to use this service.

14. What kind of material can be borrowed through ILL?

  • Books
  • Journal Articles
  • Seminar Proceedings
  • Material which is not in UTeM Library collection.

15. What kind of material can not be borrowed through ILL?

Thesis, reference materials, serial publications such as magazines and journals. However, articles from magazines or journals can be photocopied.

16. How many materials can be borrowed at one time?

There is no limit on the loan.

17. Is there a service charge?

There is no charge imposed to users who use the service.

18. How to make a loan?

Complete the form and send it to the User Advisory Desk (MPP), Library.

19. How long to process an application?

Applications will be processed within 10 working days.

20. How long is the period taken by UTeM Library to get the material requested?

Normally books will take 10 - 14 days while articles 3 - 5 days. However, the period is dependent on the availability of the material and subject to the lending library policy.

21. How long can a material be borrowed?

Term of the loan is dependent on the library that is lending. Usually 2 weeks to 1 month.

22. Can the applicant renew the loan?

Yes. The borrower must inform the Customer Service Unit by calling 03-331 6834 at least 5 days before the due date. Results for renewing the borrowing term is dependent on the library supplying the materials.

23. The applicant borrowed books using ILL, and found out that the material is very important and meet the research needs of the applicant. Can the applicant suggests that UTeM Library purchase the said materials to add to the local collections?

Yes. The borrower may propose to UTeM library for the purchase of books which are not in our collection.
